Admission for Future Consecutive Education Students

Minimum Admission Requirements

Ensure that you meet these requirement before you apply.

You must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited degree-granting institution. The degree must:

• be conferred no later than June 30, 2027, and
• have a minimum of 10 full (20 one-semester), or 60 credits’ worth of, undergraduate course equivalents (not including college transfer courses).

To be eligible for consideration, you must have 10 full (20 one-semester), or 60 credits’ worth of, undergraduate course equivalents by the time you complete your degree, not including college transfer credit. Ensure that you meet this requirement before you apply.

Your admission average is calculated using your best 10 full (20 one-semester), or 60 credits’ worth of, undergraduate course equivalents completed at the time you apply. We consider only the first 25 courses in the calculation of the average, even if you present more.

If you have an average of less than 70% for these course equivalents, we will be unable to consider you for admission.

If you have a graduate degree, you may have a maximum of 5 full graduate courses included in your average.

College diploma credits used to obtain transfer credit in a degree program will not be used to calculate your admission average or satisfy teaching requirements.

Your admission average will be based on what appears on your submitted transcript by the transcript deadline.

If you have, or will have, a minimum of 10 full (20 semester) undergraduate courses by the time you complete your degree, not including transfer credit from college, you are eligible for consideration. Your admission average will be based on what appears on your submitted transcript by the transcript deadline. If we offer you admission, we will recalculate your average upon receipt of final grades, using all 10 full (20 semester) undergraduate courses. You will be required to have a minimum 70% average to meet the conditions of your offer.

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission. This is a limited enrollment, highly competitive program. The average required for admission may be higher than the stated minimum.

An experience profile is not required.
Transfer Applicants: If you have completed or will be completing the first year of a BEd degree from a recognized Ontario university, you are welcome to apply for transfer consideration. Transfer applicants must be in good standing and not have failed any practicum component.

We will assess for transfer credits once you receive and accept an offer of admission. If you received a conditional offer of admission, we will require a final official transcript to complete this assessment. Our Pathway Development Coordinator may reach out to you if we require syllabi to assist with equivalency evaluation.

As not all BEd programs are offered in the same manner, receipt of transfer credit may not reduce time to completion. Transfer credit will normally only reduce the total number of credits required to complete your degree.

All transfer applicants will be required to meet the same general, division and teaching subject requirements as direct applicants.

There is no guarantee that you will be admitted. Admission requirements vary from institution to institution.

Education courses completed will not be used to calculate your admission average.

Internationally Educated Teachers: If you are an internationally educated teacher, visit Ontario’s Teaching Regulator | Ontario College of Teachers for more information on how to be certified to teach in Ontario. If OCT indicates that you are required to complete a 12-month Bachelor of Education program, we will consider you for admission. Submit the results of your review from OCT by the transcript deadline. Check our Application Deadlines page to get the dates.

Alternate Offers: If you are not admissible to your chosen division and/or teaching subject(s), you will be automatically considered for an alternative division and/or teaching subject(s), provided you meet admission requirements. Alternative division consideration will only occur for 1 division lower than what you have applied to. Other options will not be considered.

Choose your division to teach and teaching subject to see your requirements.

Access and Equity Policy
Nipissing University welcomes applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds. We recognize that there are institutional processes and cultural differences that present barriers to some applicants obtaining access to university. Nipissing University is committed to diversity, equity and accessibility and has reserved spaces in our undergraduate programs for students from groups including but not limited to persons with disabilities, economically disadvantaged individuals, Franco-Ontarians, Indigenous persons, visible minorities, LGBTQ+ and those from northern/remote/rural areas. Visit our full policy for further information.

Those who have attended an exchange program can ask their home university to send “certified true copies” of the international transcript directly to the Admissions Office (domestic applicants) or the International Admission Office (international applicants) at Nipissing University.
  • Other required documents will depend on your educational background, division(s) applied to, teaching subjects chosen, and/or pathways you wish to be considered for. Applicants are required to declare and submit transcripts from every university attended/currently attending. Transcripts must show all courses required for admission consideration as either completed or in progress (including teaching subject courses, if applicable). It is your responsibility to ensure that all courses (completed and in progress) appear on your transcript that is sent by your institution.

Include all transcripts from institutions attended on a Letter of Permission even if courses are incomplete and grades do not appear on the transcript.

Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents
Request official transcripts from all Ontario universities using a TEAS online transcript request and submit it with your TEAS application. Ensure that you select “Immediate” when asked when your transcript should be sent.

Current Nipissing students or Nipissing graduates do not need to order or send Nipissing transcripts. However, if you attended Nipissing University prior to 1992, you are considered a Laurentian University student and must submit that transcript.

Order all transcripts from non-Ontario universities directly from the institution and have them sent to the Office of the Registrar – Admissions, Nipissing University.

If you attended a postsecondary institution outside of Canada or the United States, you must have your foreign transcripts assessed by World Education Services (WES). We require a WES Credential Evaluation Report, including a course-by-course analysis. WES evaluations must be sent directly to the Admissions Office and must be received by the transcript deadline. It can take upwards of 6 weeks for WES to receive official transcripts from a foreign academic institution, after which point the WES evaluation can take a week or longer to complete. You should begin the evaluation process as early as possible.

If you attended an international institution on exchange from your Ontario-based home university, you do not need a WES evaluation.

Offer of Admission Questions

You can expect to receive an admission decision for every division and teaching subject to which you applied and for which you are eligible.

It is recommended that you apply to all divisions and/or teaching subject(s) you are interested in being considered for admission.

Applicants who are not admissible for their division and/or teaching subject(s) of their choice, will be automatically considered for an alternate division and/or teaching subject(s) provided admission requirements can be met. Please note that alternate division consideration will only occur for one division lower than what an applicant has applied to.

Visit our Alternate Offer website for further information.

Visit our When to Expect a Decision website for information on decision timelines.

The deadline to accept your offer of admission will be outlined in your offer of admission. Your offer of admission will also contain all the information you need regarding any conditions of your offer and important deadlines for additional documents and your tuition deposit. The email received will contain a link to a helpful checklist. International applicants are strongly encouraged to accept their offer within 2 weeks of the date of their offer of admission.

Domestic applicants:
You will accept your offer through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website. If you experience any issues OUAC has helpful FAQs.

International applicants:
Accept your offer of admission by the date indicated in the offer letter using the International Application Service Portal (IAS) or contact your agent to assist you with accepting your offer through the portal. International applicants are strongly encouraged to accept their offer within 2 weeks of the date on their offer of admission.

You will be required to pay a non-refundable tuition deposit. Domestic applicants will be required to pay $500 and international applicants will be required to pay $2000 CAD. The deadline for payment will be outlined in your offer of admission. International applicants are strongly encouraged to pay their deposit within 2 weeks of the date of your offer of admission.

Payment can be made by one of the following methods:

  • PayMyTuition: This is the required method for international applicants. Domestic students can also use PayMyTuition.
  • Online banking: Domestic students only and the highly recommended method to pay your deposit.

If you currently have required courses in progress, or have not graduated, your offer will be conditional upon successfully completing your courses and/or degree. You must forward us a final official transcript by June 30, showing all courses are completed and/or that your degree has been awarded. Students from Ontario universities should order their transcript through the TEAS online transcript request. If you need a transcript showing that you have graduated to meet your conditions, be sure to indicate “after degree conferred” on your transcript request. You must contact your university directly for all transcripts from universities outside Ontario. Nipissing University students do not need to send us a Nipissing transcript. International applicants should upload their transcripts to the International Application Service (IAS) portal.

Your offer will be rescinded if you do not:

  • accept our Offer of Admission and submit any required documentation by the required deadline; and/or
  • submit your non-refundable deposit by the required deadline; and/or
  • provide a final official transcript by June 30, if you received a conditional offer, showing that you successfully completed your degree and any required courses.

If you were not eligible for admission to the division and/or teaching subject you applied to, but you were eligible for another division or teaching subject, then we made you an alternate offer to that program. Alternate division consideration only occurs for one division lower than what an applicant has applied to. In rare cases, an applicant to Junior/Intermediate may be considered for Intermediate/Senior provided they are able to meet the requirements for two teaching subjects.

Visit our Alternate Offer website for further information.

There could be many factors that contributed to this decision. First and foremost, it more than likely was that you either did not meet division requirements, teaching subject requirements or both. We would have reviewed your application for an alternate teaching subject and/or division. For teaching subjects, there may not have been another option available. For divisions, alternate division consideration only occurs for one division lower than what an applicant has applied to. In rare cases, an applicant to Junior/Intermediate may be considered for Intermediate/Senior provided they are able to meet the requirements for two teaching subjects.

Visit our Alternate Offer website for further information.
